Rule Clarification

Page: Main.Clarification - Last Modified : Sun, 20 Oct 13 - 1572 Visits

This Page contains Frequently asked questions or some clarification about the rules that people could need to play the game. Most of them are now included in the revised rules.

Scoring tokens

The various scoring tokens are used to keep track of values exceeding 50 OR to play the hidden scoring variant. You accumulate point on the track, and if you have a score that exceeds 5, you replace your points with token that you place face down in front of you. This way, you score on the scoring track will range between 1-4. So nobody will be able to guess your score. It also prevent me from doing a lot of "1" tokens to keep track of the score.

Retreat from intimidation

When a player is forced to retreat from intimidation, it follows the same rules as regular retreat rules. This means that, for example, the player can retreat using navigation routes.

Retreat to pullback a non-combat movement

It is possible to "Retreat" a non-combat movement. Some combat results could make you change your mind, allowing you to move back a stack of units to it's original city instead of moving to the destination.

Not applicable in the second revision anymore.

The temple's special powers

The temple's special ability are spread out in the rules, so when you want to know what the temple does, you need to check different places in the rules. So here is the list of special abilities and the reasons behind.

  • God Power: The Primary ability is to enable the player's god power. Note that since Odin has no special ability, there is no penalty for not having a special ability.
  • Immunity to Intimidation: They are immune to the effect of intimidation when defending in battle. This prevent is to prevent a run away leader syndrome for the player who is leading in intimidation.
  • Immunity to god powers: The city with the temple is immune to the effect of any player's god power. Else Loki could simply capture a city with a temple by using his special power.
  • Immunity to invasions: The temple cannot be attacked by invaders. Else it would be too easy to capture because there is no risk in capturing it.

Rampaging

You can rampage if

  • You empty a city on the first roll of dice. Including with intimidation or if the city was already empty.
  • You have at least 2 units in the conquered city.

You roll 2D, like any combat roll, and remove the casualties in an adjacent city. Do not consider intimidation while rampaging.

  • If you roll nothing, you lose 1 unit
  • if you empty the rampaged city, you can move 1 unit in the target city.

This is why you need at least 2 units to rampage. A rampage consist in a single roll, there is no continuing combat.

  • A city can be rampaged multiple times in the same turn.
  • A city can be rampaged and then attacked by another city on the same turn.

Unused invasion blockers

It could be possible, in certain situation, that the 3rd invasion path a player could use is blocked by a temple which prevents a 3rd invasion path. The player will not be able to invade from that path, but he can still place his invasion blocker token on the path. If during his turn, he conquers the temple, at least the path will be blocked from invasion until the next turn.
