Requirements

No additional components required

Objective

Create more dynamic interaction between units and avoid dominant strategies that can occur by using the same unit twice in a row.

Rules

The rule is simple, you cannot choose the same unit twice in a row. So the unit used on the next turn must be different than the unit currently selected. You mark the selected unit by leaving your die on the chosen unit.

There are 2 exceptions

  • There is no other valid unit that can be chosen (one unit left, cavalry charges, etc)
  • Napoleon being a different unit it self could allow activating unit X a second time in a row. Then unit X being a different than napoleon can be selected a third time in a row.

Same thing for the AI in solitaire mode. If a unit was to be used again, you skip to the next unit in the list. If you reached the end of the list and Blutcher cannot be played, chose randomly between (Orange, Hill and Uxbridge).

Note: there are other variant ideas, but they are not as solid as this one.
