Status: CLOSED

  • Still searching for mechanics.
  • 2 player game so not multiplayer is OK.
  • too abstract.
  • Might focus on another ninja game.

Description

A simple abstract game where a player controls 3 ninjas which assault the other player's castle.

Objective

There are really few ninja games out there and it is very hard to make a competitive ninja game since normally the opponent should not know where your ninjas are. So this is my first attempt at making a ninja game without hidden ninjas.

Inspiration

Any ninja material, Books and video game, was a good source of inspiration for the theme but the mechanics are still unrelated to these sources.

Priority Evaluation

Theme vs Mechanics: Mechanic based, since it's a move and capture mechanism. Still new, not seen anything similar
Video vs Board Game: Both options are viable.
Single vs Multi player: Originally a 2 player game, but it could be a single player puzzle. Could in fact be interesting as a solitaire game.
Rating = 6/12

Digitizability

- Cartography: Carto graphy is required for the board.
+ no Scripting: I don't think script will be necessary. Pieces will have unique abilities like in chess. It can be hardcoded

Mechanics

One player will control the ninjas while the other player controls the castle. Each ninja can more every turn. They have the advantage of ignoring height and other obstacle. The defending player controls soldiers and samurais and he will also move 3 of these during his turn.

Ninjas can capture soldiers during their movement. Soldiers needs to surround a ninja in order to capture him. Samurais are the only unit that can capture a ninja by itself.

Now since the ninjas are not hidden on the board, their special abilities will be hidden to the defending player. Each ninja will have one special card in each of these categories:

  • Skill: This is a special ability that can be reused every turn.
  • spell: this is a one time use ability
  • Item: this is a one time use ability.

(other stuff might be added later)

During the player's turn, instead of making the ninja move and capture, he can use the special abilities of the ninja instead.

Problems that prevent development

I am not sure if it could actually be fun. I made some small test since the components requirements were really simple and it was not exceptional. I am also not sure of what the objectives should be. Probably getting hidden objectives would be a very good idea considering that the defender can see the ninjas.

Else I would have to bet everything on the hidden special abilities to make the game fun and counteract the fact that the ninja's can be seen.

Idea: get inspiration from Chinese chess for the look and feel.
