An adventure game that tries to create a sorcerer's life to each player. Would you become the leader of a kingdoms, of a religious cult or simply the most popular dragon slayer.
I want to make a good adventure game. Most people complains that adventure games out there are repetitive and boring. I want to solve that problem by making the game evolve as you gain more experience. When you are more powerful, you do not do simple adventuring anymore.
The second objective is to recreate the feeling of being a sorcerer like it would be possible if magic existed in real life.
There is not much specific source of inspiration for this game besides adventure games and Role playing games.
Theme vs Mechanics: based on theme, Mechanics are not well defined, might need to take a look at other adventure games.
Video vs Board Game: Could be implemented as a video or board game.
Single vs Multi player: The more I think about it, the more it would make more sense to be a single player only game.
Rating = 4/12
- Cartography: Since it's andaventure game, there should be a map to explore.
? Scripting: There is too little know to determine if scripting is essential or not.
I am not sure exactly what mechanics are going to be used. There will probably be dice rolling for combat, and cards for events, quest and etc.
The main difference with other adventure game would be that the adventuring part: wander around the land, kill some stuff and collect the loot, is only done in the first half of the game. Then the players get powerful and have a chance to fulfill their ambitions.
There would be many "career" opportunity which will each have it's set of rule. Players would be allowed to recruit followers and will gain victory points for achieving things. Players goal will interact with each other in various ways. For example, one player could be the leader of a kingdoms, while another player controls a religious cult that spreads among many different kingdoms.
Players will have a set of generic components which will have various functions according to the "career" they have chosen.
I think the biggest problem with this game would be to implement variety. I need to make a system where it is easy to add stuff into it like it is currently the case for many adventure game.
The second problem is to make sure that it does not become a solitaire multi-player game. So I will have to increase the number of times objectives of different players cross over each other.
May 10th 2014: I had an idea to make a single player RPG like some game I used to play when I was a teenager. You would start as a simple character, meet people, go into adventure and eventually gain power and make your won kingdom to wage war or deal with larger trouble. I think this game idea could do this. Now I am not sure if I really want to restrict it only as living as a wizard. Probably not. I might change the title (Suggestion: from pawn to king) and allow any kind of class to be played.
