Status: CLOSED

  • Multiplayer game, cannot play role selection in solo, maybe 2 players game possible.
  • Not quite sure which mechanics will be used besides the role system.

Progress: Partially Designed
Priority: Low
Number of players: 2 - 6 players
Expected Play time: 180 - 300 minutes

Description

This game could be summarised as 18XX meets Puerto Rico. Like 18XX you manage the economics of train company but the actions of the player are executed with Puerto Rico style roles.

Objective

The goal is to make an 18XX game but only keep the elements I like. The problem is that I will remove some core 18XX mechanics that defines 18XX games because they are actually the mechanics I don't like. So it is impossible to make it an 18XX game.

Inspiration

Of course 18XX games is the main inspiration, but there are a few other train games like voldampf.

Priority Evaluation

Theme vs Mechanics: Based on a combination of mechanic system. Not sure if it could work.
Video vs Board Game: Can be released on both platform.
Single vs Multi player: Must be multi player due to role selection mechanism.
Rating = 5/12

Digitizability

- Cartography: Cartography is required to make connections, but it could be abstracted differently.
+ No Scripting: I don't think scripting should be required since it's an economic game.

Mechanics

Since I am first aiming for print and play, I want to minimise assembly work. So all the rail will be predrawn on the map, you will simply remove tokens from the track to unlock them.

The trains will get used as you operate them by rotating the train tile. You will be able to repair trains. So trains will never deplete. You will be iable to invest in research to upgrade train speed and capacity.

The small companies will become a new economical aspect because many game functions like bank loans, repairs, track building, etc actually hires a small company owned by a player. So player will get a cut of the money that generally goes to the bank.

Finally, the puerto rico role system will indicate what actions the players must do. It is the mechanic that could force a player to pay loan interest, give dividends, or operate to damage a train, etc.

21-dec-2013IdeaCould reuse an idea I suggested for another game where each roles has a 2nd more basic function that you can do, but all other player's cannot like if all roles could be a prospector in itself.
